Modi Jalvidyut Company Limited (MJCL) was established as a subsidiary company of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) on 3rd March 2017 to develop two projects namely Upper Modi A Hydroelectric Project (UMAHEP) and its cascade Upper Modi Hydroelectric Project (UMHEP). The installed capacity of UMAHEP and UMHEP is 42 MW and 18.2 MW respectively. Similarly, the total annual average energy generation for UMAHEP and UMHEP is estimated to be 243.58GWh and 109.22GWh respectively. Both projects are located approximately 250 km west of Kathmandu at right bank of Modi River, a major tributary of Kaligandaki River in the Annapurna Rural Municipality of Kaski District in the Gandaki Province of Nepal. Generated power from Upper Modi Hydroelectric project will be evacuated through a 11.5 km long 132 kV (Single circuit) Transmission line to connect UMAHEP switchyard to New Modi Substation.
